Dutch Festival O'Holender! – this Saturday - May,15th 2010!

May 14th, 2010

This Saturday, on May,15th 2010, from 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., in Kubusia Puchatka street, in the very centre of Warsaw, Dutch Festival ‘O Holender’ will take place once again! It is organized by Stowarzyszenie Wyższej Konieczności 'Mnemosyne', and its originator is well-known actor and director, Redbad Klijnstra.

The Festival will be held in a spirit of Dutch Queen’s Day – a unique feast of freedom, joy and creative expression.

On April 30th, the Netherlands celebrate birthday of the previous Queen, Juliana. Her daughter, Beatrix, has kept this date to commemorate a remembrance of her mother. On that day, the royal family usually visits two Dutch towns. Throughout the country, you can find people dressed in orange or at least wearing orange accessories. On this occasion the national flags are hoisted with special orange pennants, a symbol of the royal house of Oranje-Nassau. There are also a lot of unique attractions for children. In most major cities giant flea markets take place - you can buy and sell almost anything there.

In Warsaw there are also many attractions for children and adults prepared – a great number of games and competitions, Dutch delicacies, a puppet show, milking the artificial cows, workshops of painting tiles, ceramic and handicrafts workshops, Dutch movies, the original Dutch barrel-organ, performances on stage, toy fair (where the children can sell their toys themselves and buy others), a shop selling books related to the Netherlands, exhibitions, and a bazaar of everything what concerns the Netherlands. During the festival a Dutch jazz musician - Saskia Laroo - will play unplugged, and in the evening her concert will be held in Centralny Basen Artystyczny.

AOMB strongly supports the idea of placing this event in our calendar for good, which is why we invite all of you to participate in this joyous event!
