iPhone not protected as a trademark

The iPhone is not protected as a trademark in Switzerland. A Swiss court has ruled that the mark lacks distinctiveness. The trademark of the Apple smartphone is descriptive, so concludes the judge, and can therefore not be protected by trademark rights, as the letter 'i' stands for internet and 'Phone' means telephone, according to the ruling.
